Elena and Ali Agougou run "un rucher de plus de 800 ruches" on Chemin de la Beauce in Beauharnois and have built "plus de 150 produits à base de miel" out of it: cold-extracted liquid honey in clover, linden, apple, goldenrod, raspberry, buckwheat, wildflower and blueberry, creamed honey, eucalyptus- and fir-flavoured honey, honey candies, salted honey caramel, honey chocolate, propolis extract and a honey-and-rosemary soap bar, alongside the meads the house is known for — Signature Cuvée Réserve, Cuvée Prestige, Coeur Sauvage and Clair de Lune.
Natural honey is HTS 0409.00.00 on the CBP Section 338 list and honey wine is a fermented beverage under HTS 2206.00.90, both carrying a 50% additional duty since August 22, 2026, so a jar of Beauharnois honey or a bottle of Miel Nature mead bought by an American now costs half again as much at the border. The meadery, whose meads took 17 medals at the Finger Lakes International Wine Competition in Rochester, New York in 2016, has not said publicly what the duty has done to its orders, and we have not found a statement of how much it sells south of the border. · content.govdelivery.com, Aug 22, 2026
