Daniel Sturges and his rod builders have hand-wrapped custom freshwater rods in Wasaga Beach since 1996, from bass and walleye sticks to musky casters, centrepin float rods and tournament fly rods.
Fishing rods crossed into the United States duty-free until August 22, 2026, when HTS 9507.10.00 picked up the 50% Section 338 duty; on September 15 the White House narrowed the line to the statistical breakout 9507.10.0040, fishing rods, still at 50%. Backwoods ships by FedEx across North America, so a $400 custom rod now lands on an American doorstep with roughly $200 of duty on top.Source: whitehouse.gov, Sep 8, 2026
