From Hives To Honey is the Lalonde brothers' beekeeping business at Clavet, east of Saskatoon: its Lalonde Honey Farms side runs "approximately 4,000 hives and 1,000 nucs" for bulk honey and beeswax, sells nucleus colonies each spring and does hybrid canola and alfalfa seed pollination, while the company's storefront supplies beekeepers with wax melters, extracting equipment, Hummerbee forklifts, woodenware and hive tools.

Natural honey is HTS 0409.00.00 on the CBP Section 338 list, carrying a 50% additional duty since August 22, 2026, and the United States takes about 15 to 20 per cent of Lalonde's sales. Simon Lalonde, co-owner here and president of the Saskatchewan Beekeepers Development Commission, told 650 CKOM on August 23, 2026 that a duty of any size closes that market outright and that finding buyers elsewhere is the work of years, not weeks.

His ask of Canadian shoppers is small and specific: one extra pound of honey a household per season covers the lost export volume.
Part of it too is it's odd that it ended up on the auto parts tariff annex.

The honey is Saskatchewan honey from a second-generation family operation their father started in 1979: Lalonde Honey Farms is "based near Clavet, Saskatchewan" and says it produces "premium, pure Canadian honey and beeswax", and Simon and Dan Lalonde "purchased the original company" in 2014.
