Cabico builds made-to-measure cabinetry for "Kitchens," "Bathrooms," and "Other Spaces" at its Coaticook, Quebec and St. Catharines, Ontario plants, sold through dealers under the fully custom Cabico line and the semi-custom Essence by Cabico line, in painted, stained, slab, reeded, recessed-panel and raised-panel doors of wood, MDF and textured woodgrain laminate.

Cabico's kitchen cabinetry sits on HTS 9403.40.60 and its bathroom and other-room cabinetry on HTS 9403.60.80. Both lines carry an additional 50% US duty under Section 338 - the other-wooden-furniture line since August 22, 2026, the kitchen line from September 15, 2026 - and the Globe and Mail reported Cabico "typically sends around 90 per cent of its product south across the border", roughly $100-million of high-end kitchen cabinets a year. By July 17, 2026 owner Alain Ouzilleau had laid off about 200 of his 700 staff and was running at half capacity: "It's very frustrating and painful."

Ouzilleau on laying off about 200 of the roughly 700 people at the Coaticook and St. Catharines cabinet plants as the trade war cut the company to half capacity.

Said in October 2025, right after telling the Globe "We have very long-term loyal customers", of the 50% US cabinet and furniture tariff then set for January 1, ten months before the separate Section 338 duty took effect.
We will never stop fighting and we'll continue to find solutions. But yes, the only solution right now we're looking at is we will keep downsizing as much as we have to as the U.S. market is just slipping under our feet.
