A tavern on rue Ontario Est in Montreal that has brewed its own beer since 1987, the first craft-brewing permit of modern Quebec. It pours its rotating house beers on ten draft lines and sells bottles to take home, such as a Grisette blended after a year in red wine barrels (4.9%, 500 ml).

Le Cheval Blanc's packaged beer (HTS 2203.00.00, "Beer made from malt") can no longer ship to the US: the US import ban on listed Canadian alcohol took effect September 29, 2026, after a 50% Section 338 duty that applied from August 22, 2026. We found no public statement from the tavern about US sales; its beer is sold by the glass and as take-away bottles at its Montreal tavern.Source: whitehouse.gov, Sep 8, 2026

You must be of legal drinking age in your province to buy alcohol. Rules on shipping alcohol between provinces vary, so buy from the maker directly or through your provincial liquor store. We only link to makers; nothing is sold on this site.

Made in Canada

Brewed at the tavern itself, "809 Ontario Est Montréal". The site's history says "C'est le 15 avril 1987 que Le Cheval Blanc reçoit son permis de production de bière artisanale", and that after a 2008 renovation "La brasserie qui se trouvait au sol-sol se retrouve maintenant au premier plancher".
