Miralis builds entirely bespoke kitchen and bathroom cabinetry in Saint-Anaclet-de-Lessard, near Rimouski, in white and red oak, white ash, birch, walnut and maple, veneer and solid, alongside lacquer, laminate and Similacquer doors, built-in furniture and integrated lighting, plus sintered-stone countertops from a second new plant in Québec City, all sold through a network of partner boutiques in Quebec, Ontario and the American east coast.

Wooden kitchen cabinets are HTS 9403.40.60 on the US Section 338 list and carry a 50% additional duty from September 15, 2026; the bathroom and living-space cabinetry Miralis builds on the same lines falls under HTS 9403.60.80, at 50% since August 22, 2026. American customers represent 30 to 40 per cent of the company's revenue. CEO and owner Daniel Drapeau told The Canadian Press in March 2026 that Miralis had put $43 million into two new plants since 2022 and was running well below capacity, and told Radio-Canada in January that employees had been laid off, given a forced extra week off over the holidays and moved onto shortened work-share weeks.
In their own words
Drapeau on the one-year delay of the doubling to 50%: welcome, but the 25% duty stayed on his cabinets in the meantime.
With the evening shift cut and most staff on shortened work-share weeks, Drapeau says the plants are being kept running enough to keep delivering orders.
On ne sait pas comment nos clients américains vont réagir face à ça, étant donné qu’il y a encore un an d’incertitude
Daniel Drapeau, président-directeur général, Miralis, à Radio-Canada · ici.radio-canada.ca, Jan 7, 2026
Drapeau says the threat hanging over the rate is itself the problem: his American buyers have another year of not knowing what a Canadian kitchen will cost them.
We were ready to grow after all those crises
Daniel Drapeau, CEO, Miralis, to The Canadian Press · toronto.citynews.ca, Mar 24, 2026
Drapeau on coming out of the pandemic, high interest rates and inflation with two new plants built and ready to run.
But now we’re being hit by the fact that there is a surge. There is too much product coming from other countries.
Daniel Drapeau, CEO, Miralis, to The Canadian Press · toronto.citynews.ca, Mar 24, 2026
The duty hits Miralis's American orders at the same time as cabinets shut out of the US market are being sold into Canada instead.
The manufacturers in Canada are running at maybe 50 per cent of their capacity, which is the strict minimum to stay alive.
Daniel Drapeau, CEO, Miralis, to The Canadian Press · toronto.citynews.ca, Mar 24, 2026
Drapeau, speaking for the cabinet makers who formed the Canada Wood Products Alliance, on how far the industry has had to throttle back.
Hundreds of jobs have been lost, and thousands are in work-share, and there will be more unfortunately in the next months or years if we can’t find solutions.
Daniel Drapeau, CEO, Miralis, to The Canadian Press · toronto.citynews.ca, Mar 24, 2026
Drapeau counts the cost across the Canadian cabinet industry rather than just his own plants.

Made in Canada
Miralis has made cabinets in the same corner of the Lower St-Laurent for more than four decades and says so plainly: "We manufacture locally, near the mighty Saint-Laurent River and its sweeping landscapes, which have nurtured our creativity and respect for the environment for more than 45 years", calling itself "the only Québec-based business that crafts entirely custom-made kitchens".
On the tariff list
- HTS 9403.40.60 · Furniture (other than seats) made of wood (other than bent-wood) nesoi, of a kind used in the kitchen or designed for motor vehicle use · 50% from Sep 15, 2026
Miralis's lead product line is kitchen cabinetry — its own products page says of cabinets, "At the heart of every home, the kitchen. An assembly of furniture and frames with limitless possibilities" — built from wood the company describes as "a wide variety of wood species, both veneer and solid wood". Wooden furniture other than seats of a kind used in the kitchen is HTS 9403.40.60, on the Section 338 annex at 50% from September 15, 2026.
- HTS 9403.60.80 · Other furniture and parts thereof, Other wooden furniture, Other · 50% since Aug 22, 2026
Beyond the kitchen, Miralis makes bathroom vanities and living-space built-ins from the same wood: "Built-ins are a permanent feature of the walls and part of the architecture of a property", offered "whether for a vestibule, an office or a walk-in closet". Wooden furniture of that kind enters the United States under HTS 9403.60.80 on the CBP Section 338 list at 50% since August 22, 2026.

Take Daniel Drapeau, CEO of Quebec-based custom cabinet maker Miralis. His company has invested $43 million since 2022 as it built two plants, with plenty of automation to boost productivity, but like so many others in the industry, it's now operating well below capacity.
