Canada’s first purpose-built brewpub, opened in Victoria in 1984, brewing ales such as Mitchell’s Extra Special Bitter, Jolly Hopper Imperial IPA, Departure Pilsner and Nut Brown Ale, fermenting dry ciders from BC apples (House Dry, Braeburn, Mac Attack), and distilling Botanical Beach Gin, flavoured gins, a Chocoholic Crème de Cacao and a limoncello.
Spinnakers' packaged beer (HTS 2203.00.00, "Beer made from malt"), packaged cider (HTS 2206.00.15), packaged gin (HTS 2208.50.00) and liqueurs (HTS 2208.70.00) can no longer ship to the US: the US import ban on listed Canadian alcohol took effect September 29, 2026, after a 50% Section 338 duty that applied from August 22, 2026. Brewed, fermented and distilled at 308 Catherine St, Victoria, on the Inner Harbour. The ciders use "a range of apples from the Okanagan and Victoria’s own backyards" and are "fermented in house"; the crème de cacao is made from "our 100% Vancouver Island malted barley based neutral spirit".
