Puzzles carry the US Section 338 duty of 50% as of August 22, 2026. StumpCraft has posted a notice to US customers saying it has put US orders on hold rather than pass surprise customs and brokerage charges to buyers.

In their own words

  • On August 29, changes to U.S. trade rules — including the removal of the de minimis threshold and the addition of a 35% tariff on Canadian goods — have created some new complications for our American puzzlers.

StumpCraft's own notice describes a further US trade-rule change on August 29 -- the loss of the de minimis exemption plus a 35% tariff -- on top of the Section 338 duty, layering new costs onto US shipments.

  • new U.S. tariffs of 35% have been applied to some shipments, often alongside a brokerage fee charged by the carrier. For UPS, these fees are typically in the $25–$35 range and up.

StumpCraft says customers have actually been charged 35% tariffs plus carrier brokerage fees of $25-35 or more on some US shipments.

  • To avoid saddling customers with surprise costs, we're putting U.S. orders on hold while we get clearer direction from carriers and customs.

StumpCraft explains it paused US orders specifically to protect customers from unpredictable tariff and brokerage charges.
