Yoav Sasportas and his crew keep about ten million bees in and around Montreal and sell what the hives spare: 500g jars of raw, cold-extracted honey, 500g jars of raw honey with honeycomb chunks, 200g of 100% raw honeycomb, and gift boxes like The Harvest Ritual and the Signature Edition built for corporate gifting.

Urban Dvash's raw honey and honeycomb are natural honey under HTS 0409.00.00, on the CBP Section 338 list at an added 50% duty since August 22, 2026, and The CJN reports the company "exports some honey to customers south of the border". Sasportas told The CJN's North Star podcast on August 26, 2026 that he has cancelled an equipment order, gone cautious on expansion and let the apiary shrink because of the tariffs, and that at 50% the duty can cost more than the honey it is charged on.

Sasportas says the tariffs hit Urban Dvash from both directions and that he cancelled an extractor order mid-harvest rather than pay them.
So, I think that my approach has been to be cautious, not to expand. My apiary has even gone down in size because of this.

We're not going to pay 50 per cent tariffs. I've seen someone posting online trying to ship honey, and the price of the tariff was the price of the honey, more than the price of the honey. So, it's just not worth it to.

At 50%, he says, the duty on a shipment can exceed the value of the honey inside it, which takes American orders off the table.
My message is vote for Canadian honey, vote for the Canadian beekeeper. That's how we fight back, because at the end of the day, whether Trump was here or not, we should be buying local, right?
